Muckle Roe

Muckle Roe is a brilliant area to explore with numerous walks around the island. It has high cliffs at the south and is made of red granite, with an ancient extinct volcano being one of its prevailing features. The island's name originates from Old Norse meaning ‘Big Red Island’.

The island is connected to the mainland at Busta by a small bridge, and is home to 900 inhabitants and many different species and wildlife.
